Municipal Heat Planning for Schwerin

The municipal heat planning for Schwerin started at the beginning of 2025 and has since reached important milestones. It affects approximately 100,000 people in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s second-largest city. The project area covers approximately 130 km2.

Following a comprehensive stakeholder analysis and data collection, both the inventory and potential analyses were successfully completed. The interim results were presented to the public at a first, open citizens’ forum on 2025-10-07. In addition to presenting key results developed so far, the citizens of Schwerin were involved through a live survey and discussion of the findings. The survey results, in particular, indicate that Schwerin residents desire a sustainable, socially acceptable, and predictable heat supply. This desire will be taken into account in the further development of the heat plan.

The Schwerin Heat Plan is being developed in close cooperation between the consulting firms Elbing & Volgmann and Theta Concepts, and key stakeholders from administration, energy supply, and housing companies.
