Our scientific contribution in “Renewable Energy Focus” (2023) focussed on the central results and insights of Rostock’s heat plan was the starting point for an international exchange that recently took place in the premises of the City of Rostock…

Last week, the City of Rostock, Stadtwerke Rostock AG, and Theta Concepts welcomed colleagues from Canada (Toronto) as part of an exchange on Rostock’s heat plan.
The Canadian colleagues are currently on a journey across Europe to learn about successful projects in the field of heat transition. The focus is on lighthouse projects for transforming district heating towards climate-friendly technologies. The goal is to gain insights to develop approaches for the heat transition and the expansion of district heating.
We are pleased about a very lively exchange on the various boundary conditions and diverse issues on the path to climate-neutral heat. We were able to identify commonalities and also clear differences in the path to climate neutrality between Canada (Ontario) and Germany, and we were able to address the relevance of a well-founded heat plan.
The exchange was rounded off by a relaxed lunch and a tour of the power plant, power-to-heat facility, and thermal storage of Stadtwerke Rostock AG.
